#1: The confluence point

(visited by nya)

16-Aug-2004 -- After leaving a ger near Ulaanbaatar, I am stiil uncertain where to go with my motorcycle. My first plan was to go to Hovsgol lake, but I stayed too long in the ger and remaining time may not be enough to go there. Saying goodbye and heading south, I remember about Degree Confluence Project. Looking up nearest Confluence, set GPS waypoint and I head to N47 E107.

My first Confluence is located near Bayantsagaan town. Seeking earth road heading to the point, I rode my motorcycle in rough roads. About 3km away from the point, I left earth road and headed straight to the point through steppe. Avoiding holes dug by Tarbagans, I went through low, sometimes tall grasses and got to the point.

The area was typical Mongolian steppe and there was some gers within sight. The confluence was located about 100m from earth road, on west hill there seems to be some monolith or something, which may be relics.
