11-Apr-2019 -- We are trekking with friends through the kingdom of Mustang. A Nepalese guide is required in this area. In 2017 we could already convinced Dawa to visit N28° E85° with us. So it was obvious to have him on our tour again this year.

We have planned a rest day in Tangye for the group, in order to make an attempt together with Dawa to the hitherto virgin CP.

The available map allows us to locate the point at about 5000 m altitude on a ridge. On the internet maps available to us, it is not possible to tell exactly whether the CP is on the more accessible eastern side or on the steep side of the ridge that breaks off towards the river. On site we decide for the longer, probably easier route.

In the morning, at around 08:00 am we leave. Behind the village Tangye we walk about one km along the moat to the valley, which branches off to the northeast. There is a path that divides again and again and leads to Alt-Dyhe. We walk up this path, crossing small gorges again and again. On the way, again and again we find fragments of many ammonites. After about 1 1/2 hours, we leave these path tracks and follow the directions of the GPS device directly in the direction of the CP. There are still over 3 km to cover from here and one cannot imagine where the CP should be. We cross three deeper gorges and then climb up a steep, overgrown slope. At the top we reach a ridge that rises to the left. After consulting the GPS device, we decide not to climb this ridge but to climb further onto a saddle a little to the east. On the saddle we recognize that it changes into a long steadily rising valley exactly in our direction. From here it is about 1200 m to the CP. Slowly, laboriously we ascend. It looks as if the end of the valley lies directly at the CP. Having arrived there we recognize that we are standing on the main ridge and that it descends in steep rock steps behind. We get, according to our GPS device, to a point 213 m from the CP. This is estimated to be 200 to 300 m below us in the steep, gradually breaking rock.

We stretch a prayer flag between two rocky peaks. We consider climbing to the next higher summit of the ridge. We are at 4779 m. Since the summit, at 5000 m, does not seem to be reachable, we give up. At the next summit below us, old cave remains can be seen. For the way back we use the ridge northeast of our valley and leave it far down to reach the path from the pass in direction Alt Dyhe. The path into the valley is not always easy to recognize in the direct course due to different variants that the shepherds use. It happens that one stands in front of a gorge into which no descent or ascent is recognizable. Then you have to go back a bit and check out a new variant. At some point we are out of the difficult area and reach our lodge at about 3:45pm. In the evening we can convince the owner of the small tractor in the village, to drive us with our backpacks about 50 km through the river plains to Kagbeni the next day. A very hard, but also impressive experience. Everyone is happy that we save ourselves a hard tour of about 10 hours, but it also means a quick, sudden end of our beautiful time in the kingdom of Mustang.

We think that we can announce the visit as successful, as it is more than improbable that the point can be reached from the other side through the steep rocky steps, into the regularly required area.

Coordinator's Note: Even though nobody may get closer then the visitors in this attempt we have to classify the visit as incomplete since they were only able to get within 200m.
