#1: A bed of thirsty flowers marks the spot

(visited by Stephan Theriault)

20-Nov-2005 -- There was just enough time to drive to my third confluence of the journey before dark. Well it was a bit of a mad dash but it paid off. According to an aerial photograph downloaded from Google earth, I could come within three and a half kilometres to the point and this one seemed like the confluence I could get to without any trouble. As luck would have it, I found a bush track along side the fence. It went for a long way as far as I could see towards a range of mountains (mountains by Australian standard = hills) As I went down the track, the GPS indicated that I was going to get almost right up to the confluence. As it turned out, a 3 kilometres drive took me within a couple hundred metres. This was easier than I had planned. After admiring the beautiful sunset, I set up camp, the stroll to the confluence would have to wait until the morning. It was too dark for pictures anyway.

In the morning, I had enough time for a decent breakfast, a bit of reading and planning then I went and took care of business, The 200 metres I had to walk to get there required me going over no fewer than three wire fences. I have no idea why there were so many so close to each other. The sunrise had been as nice as the sunset the night before. I packed up my stuff drove back on the ever-so-useful dirt track and I was glad I had the four wheel drive because it was bumpy and there were a few bushes to drive over. Then it was a matter of making my way to the fourth and last confluence of the journey: 32S 144E. Three out of three so far, Woo-hoo!!!
