#1: Metal stake marking the confluence point

(visited by Michael Lowe)

01-Nov-2021 -- Being the only confluence point in Sydney, I thought I’d take my day off and try my first attempt at a confluence point.

The point had 11 past visits, and by all reports it seemed like a very accessible confluence.

Inspired by Ross Finlayson's last visit which included drone footage, I also took my drone but I clumsily forgot to charge the battery before the trip, so the comparison aerial footage will have to wait for another time. I really like the idea of using the drone though and I plan to use it for future visits.

This confluence point lies about 200m to the East of Heathcote Rd, and is easily accessible by dirt trails which go to within 10 metres of the actual confluence. I parked the car on the shoulder of the main road near the start of one of the trails.

The trails are still a dumping ground for illegal waste, however the large mound of tyres is no longer there. Maybe they were incinerated in the bushfires of 2019, or maybe they were removed? However the abandoned car is still there and seems to be even worse for wear than in previous pictures with some fresh trash dumped on top of it.

The actual point is still marked with a rusted metal stake. I notice since Ross's visit in 2018 there is now a dog tag attached indicating the latitude and longitude (so either Ross put it there or this confluence point has been visited in the time since).
