#1: Looking North to the confluence point near the base of the tree

(visited by John Heckendorf)

31-Oct-2009 -- Work had me travelling from Sydney to Kapooka Army Base just out of Wagga Wagga so I decided to break the trip up with a Degree Confluence visit along the way.

This confluence took me off the Hume Highway at Gundagai and along some rural single lane bitumen roads and then onto a couple of kms of dirt road along with a couple of stock grids. I was able to drive within about 150m of this confluence and then walk through the field past a dam directly to the point.

The whole area was quite lush after reasonable rains in the past month or two - the grass provided a deal of ground cover half way up to my knees which didn't bother me till I almost stepped on what initially looked to be a black snake. Fortunately it was only the shed skin of a snake but I took much more care after that little spine shivering incident.

I easily located the confluence point, took some pics and then continued on my way to Kapooka via Nangus and Oura as opposed to the Sturt Highway. Nice drive late spring as it is.
