#1: The Confluence from 15 m distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz and Elionora)

14-Oct-2015 -- This is the third out of 6 reports, describing confluence visits in Zambia and Zimbabwe. The story continues from 16°S 27°E and starts from 16°S 28°E. More pictures about our trip can be found here.

After spending 2 nights at Victoria Falls, we continued our round trip along Zambesi River on the Zimbabwe side. This Confluence can be reached relatively simply from Victoria Falls by driving south on the main road to Harare for 10 km, then turning eastwards on a gravel road for 20 km, then turning into a side track for another 1.8 km and then on a tinier track for the last 1 km. But due to the deep sand, we parked our vehicle in a distance of 500 m and walked to the point, which is just 100 m from the track.

Right at the confluence point there is no groundcover during the dry season. All around are scattered trees and bushes. On our little hike, we didn’t meet anybody although there is a farm with a fenced plot nearby.

We returned the same route back to our car and drove back to the main gravel road in 2.8 km distance to continue driving on it eastwards. Our intention was to visit the not yet discovered point 18°S 27°E, which would present us a surprise…
