(visited by Dave McGinnis and Deborah McGinnis)

25-Jul-2004 -- I was recently placed in NW Queensland for a 7-month project, and had a look for unvisited confluence points. This one looked easy enough on the map, only 250km from Mt. Isa where we're living now. This area is rich in Burke & Wills heritage (early Australian explorers) so we hoped that our first confluence visit wouldn't end in tragedy. From Cloncurry, we took the Burke Road (State Route 83) north and turned northwest toward Sedan Dip. The road was unsealed for the last 100km, and by following a cattle path for 2km, we were able to drive to within about 900m of the point, which we were able to walk.

The terrain wasn't difficult to cross. This part of Australia is primarily cattle country and is quite flat, with low scrub and a few trees. There weren't any cattle around but we disturbed some sleepy kangaroos. The flies were the worst part of our hike. In the photo of Deb standing on the point, she's not waving to the camera, she's actually swatting at flies!

So we lined up the zeros, snapped the photos, and hastily made our way back to the car and a celebratory ginger ale.
