(visited by Angus Rolle, Lisa Rolle and Mark Rolle)

22-Feb-2008 -- We visited this confluence point during a delivery flight of an R44 helicopter from Brisbane, QLD to Victoria River Downs Station in the NT.On the same trip we also visited or passed by 18S-135E, 18S-138E, 18S-139E, 18-141, 26S-144E and 26S-146E. We made a detour via the Gulf of Carpentaria to go Heli-fishing for Barramundi - an awesome trip.

We passed the confluence point flying between Longreach (birthplace of QANTAS) and McKinlay which is where parts of "Crocodile Dundee" where filmed. We actually stayed at the "Walkabout Creek Hotel".

The confluence point is located on a small range that is to the north west of the Diamantina river system which is a series of flooded channels that eventually drain into Lake Eyre approximately 1000km to the south west.

We were lucky to be able to land as the confluence point was in an area that was relatively clear where the whole area around was thickly scrubbed. There was really nice Spinafex grass that was just flowering which looked spectacular from above forming bright green circular clumps. The contrasting colours of the red brown soil against the blues skies and green vegetation is really beautiful and makes the entire Australian outback visually spectacular.

A beautiful, but very remote place. I think visiting by the ground would be a relatively arduous task. The nearest defined road is that to "Cathederal Hill Station" which is approximately 60km away. I guess we will probably be the only ones to visit this site for some time to come.
