01-Jun-2012 -- Yesterday I did 30S-130E on my way up from Cook and then it was another 80kms up to the Lake Dey-Dey road where I camped for the night.
Next morning I was heading southeast for 150 km down the Dey – Dey road past the Oak Valley community to Irish Well. On the way I stopped and talked to John Munji, the chair person of the community. He was on his way home after having overnighted at Maralinga where he had attended a regional meeting.
On arrival at the Irish Well area I still had approximately 10kms of bush bashing through sand dunes to reach the CP. After going South for a while the dunes became too steep to get over easily so I followed one ridge West until I hit 131E and then it was a case of walking south over over 12 sand dunes until I reached 30S. I did the CP photos and then managed to find 13 sand dunes back to my vehicle, GPS’s are great things for finding your vehicle again. After that it was back to Ceduna to organise a time to enter the prohibited area of Maralinga.
