  30°S 124°E

#1: North from CP

(visited by Hugh Knight, terry hay and rona hay)

11-Apr-2004 -- We left Esperance Thursday 8th April 2004 to do a trip through Kalgoorlie, east to Pinjin Station and on to Argus corner, south to Queen Victoria Spring and Cundalee Mission before heading north again up to Laverton. Enroute we planned to visit 30°S 124°E which is located north of the PNC Base Line. PNC is Power Nuclear Corporation, a Japanese company connected with the closed down and rehabilitated Officer uranium mine. The Base Line is a good straight track from which PNC carried out exploration activities in the 1970s and these tracks provided us with easier access to the CP.

Most of the area was red or yellow sand dune country which made travel a lot easier due to the wet conditions. When we reached the end of the track we had 2.5kms to walk over endless large sand dunes which were dotted with native pines and large grass trees (blackboys) which would be thousands of years old. The walk was hot and humid but otherwise uneventful and the total length of the trip was 2270kms.
