#1: Confluence 31°S 126°E, Nullarbor Plain, west of Haig.

(visited by John Bylund)

16-Jul-2001 -- I was again on one of my remote desert track mapping surveys when I noticed I was nearing a confluence. The spot was very close to the Trans Australian Railway which I was following on a road called the Trans Access Road.

This road and railway cross the vast Nullarbor Plain and are part of the vitally important railway spanning the Australian continent. I left my 4WD vehicle unattended (as I was alone) and walked the kilometre and a half (1 mile) north to find the confluence. The scenery was almost exactly the same in every direction, flat and treeless. Nullarbor means treeless and they are not kidding!

I took three photos in different directions and they all look the same so I'll only submit one. Apart from that they are scanned from slides and I don't have ready access to a slide scanner.

The only noteworthy feature nearby was an abandonned rabbit warren.
