09-Nov-2003 -- This confluence is located only 200kms north of our home town of Esperance in southern Western Australia and is our nearest unvisited site. We departed Esperance on Friday evening and camped at Buldania rocks which is an abandond gold mining site from where we planned to launch our mission.
Having arisen on Saturday morning we discovered that one of our furry companions, an elderly chiuhuahua, had vanished. After much unrewarded bushwalking and dog whistling and the expiry of eight and half hours our furry friend appeared from the bush and Peta, like all of us, was very relieved. We then decided that we may as well camp at this location again and proceed to the confluence the following day.
With the mood of the party being much happier on our next arising, we proceeded towards our confluence expecting to have to walk at least 5 kms. As we drove along we were surprised to find that recent mining activity had opened roads through the bush which enabled us to drive to within 500 meters of the confluence. The walk to the confluence was very pleasant with numerous local parrots squarking their day away in the tall Salmon Gums.
