04-Jun-2024 -- We reached this confluence point on hiking-day #76 on our leg from Dounby to Kirkwall. The total hike was 81 days and 2710 km on foot starting in Zurich, Switzerland. A summary of the trip can be found here.
The confluence is located just 2 km out of Kirkwall the largest town on the archipelago Orkney. It couldn’t be located more conveniently, as it was directly on our hiking route. We only had to leave the road and hike 250 m into a meadow, which was free of cattle during our visit. Neighbouring meadows had lots of grazing cows, so we were lucky. The dominating feature was a huge cruise ship in the harbour of Kirkwall in about 1 km distance.
After the visit we quickly reached Kirkwall, spent the evening there and took the overnight-ferry to the Shetland Islands at 23:45.
