12-Jan-2000 -- Having had a 4.5 hour hike earlier in the day to get to 56N
111W, I was glad that this confluence was much easier. Just
a little NE of Mariana Lake was a turnoff from Highway 63 on
a private road heading NW behind Mariana Lake. Very close
to 56N, the road turned directly west, and about 100m shy of
112W, it veered a little to the south. A cutline however
continued directly west. Close to this bend in the road
was an intersection where a road headed north, and a person
could park a truck for a short period of time. The
confluence was about 100m along the cutline, and maybe 10m
north of the cutline, in a burned area. You had to be a
little careful walking across the fallen timbers lying
every which way. I reached the confluence (437633E 6206531N
685m Elevation according to my Garmin 12 GPS) at about
3:55pm.
After taking off my hiking boots, I proceeded to drive the
remining 335km or so back to Edmonton.
