(visited by Karl Cox)

06-Dec-2009 -- This site has been visited before me by Brian Johns et al. However I was unable to find their record on the website so I decided to do it again (I think this is an error resulting from the confluence being on the Northwest Territories-Alberta border). December is probably an ideal time for this site as it is a wet area in the summer and the flies would likely be quite bad, plus the snow is still quite manageable on foot in December so snowshoes are not necessary.

My 2 dogs and I drove down Highway 5 from Fort Smith until we were about 1 km from the site. From there is was a relatively short bushwack south through typical boreal forest, mostly mixed, with some fairly heavy stands of black spruce and willow mixed in. It was a fairly overcast day, calm winds and a temperature of -22 Celsius.

The site of confluence is typically a wet area of Black Spruce, willow, and Tamarack. Not much was seen for wildlife, but there were quite a few snowshoe hare tracks in the area.

The Northwest Territories/Alberta demarcation line is passing exactly through the Confluence.
