14-Jan-2001 -- We may have missed Rich Carlson by only hours at this
confluence! Sonya and I attempted to get there by the
northern approach on the 13th, when he succeeded, and put
off our second attempt until the next day. This area seems
to be on the boundary between the mesquite trees of West
Texas and the live oaks of South Texas -- both are plentiful
in Menard County. Some of each are evident in Photo #1-- the
live oaks are the ones with leaves on. Photo #2 shows GPS
proof, and #3 shows an astounding live oak just west of
the old house Mr. Carlson photographed. It must have been
fun to climb for the kids that grew up there!
