#1: View of the confluence point to the west

(visited by Frank Mahoney, Joan Mahoney, Alowisius Batlayeri and Bernard Bivak)

18-May-2008 -- We visited this site while bird-watching in Wasur National Park. We met park rangers Alo and Bernard at the national park office in Merauke. They were excellent guides and great companions during our brief visit. The site can be reached by a dirt road that runs north from the town of Sato parallel to the border of Papua New Guinea. The road is rough going in some areas and not passable during the rainy season (Jan-May). There are numerous military check points along the route and it is necessary to check in at each one to continue going north. Wasur National Park is a unique wetland environment with diverse wildlife and interesting residents. Accommodation can be found in Merauke, although the hotels don't see many tourists. The park office is great and arrange day visits or camping excursions into the park.
