16-Sep-2012 -- We conquered the confluence 11S 43W on Sunday, 16 September 2012 at 4:33 pm.

After a good night's sleep in an inn in the city of Xique-Xique and a great breakfast, we left at 9:00 in the morning looking for the confluence 11S 43W, second conquest of this expedition. Initially we chose to follow toward the lagoon Itaparica which is situated between the municipalities of Xique-Xique and Gentio do Ouro. Itaparica Lagoon is known for its natural beauty, for its biodiversity and the constant presence of carnaubais and aquatic plants such as Victoria regia. Besides the beautiful landscape, the lagoon is home to species of fish such as goldfish and surubim that attracts many fishermen from many places.

Blue sky and motorbikes on the road, we proceeded for approximately 20 km South by a paved road and then we accessed a service road on the right (SW) until we reached a small village that lies on the banks of the lagoon Itaparica. As soon as we arrived, we realized that access to confluence was banned because of flooding caused by the rains that had occurred in recent days. As there was no way to cross the pond, we decided to return to the city of Xique-xique where we catered the bikes, had a snack and consulted with local residents about an alternate path for accessing the confluence 11S 43W.

New script tracing, we followed towards the water park Ponta das Pedras and we got a sandy road toward the District of Utinga. Arriving in Utinga, we had a snack and we proceeded toward the conquest of the confluence, which is less than five miles from the edge of the São Francisco River ("Velho Chico").

The region around this confluence is the banks of "Velho Chico", longest river in northeastern Brazil with 2,830 miles and one of the most important water courses in the country and the whole of South America. This river flows through regions with natural conditions of the most diverse, has more than 1,570 km navigable and has five hydroelectric plants.

Access to the confluence 11S 43W is difficult for common motorcycles because of the sandy terrain, however can be done by vehicles with high suspension and preferably with traction 4 x 4. There is no need for special equipment or clothing. Due to the arid climate of the region, we recommend taking water and sunscreen.

After registering the conquest with pictures, we returned to the city of Xique-Xique to stay overnight and the next day made the onslaught to the third confluence of this expedition 11S 42W and to return home.
