09-Feb-2016 -- This narrative continues from 3S 45W.

After the long trip going to São Luís city, capital of Maranhão state, we arrived there at Saturday night, 6 February, and we spent the two following days resting. São Luís is the only one of all nine capitals of states of Northeast region of Brazil that I didn’t even know.

Tuesday, 9 February, we started our trip back to Marabá city. Considering that the distance between São Luís and Marabá is very big (830 kilometers), considering that the confluence that we intend to visit in the trip back would spend much more time than the confluence going to São Luís, considering that when going to São Luís we arrived there at 23:00, and considering that in the day after our return, quarta-feira de cinzas (Wednesday after Carnival), I would only start to work at noon, we took the decision of don’t make all the trip back in only one day, stopping at the road at nightfall and resuming the trip in the following morning. With this decision in mind, I would have more tranquility to make the visit to the confluence, without concerning about the amount of delay in the trip that this visit would cause.

We left São Luís about 6:45 and caught BR-135 highway. A few kilometers after, in Bacabeira city, we turned left and caught MA-110 highway, which heads to Lençóis Maranhenses, a much known tourist destination of the state, which consists in a complex of sand dunes and lakes. At Morros city, we caught a secondary road and headed to Cachoeira Grande city.

At Cachoeira Grande, we caught a dirt road in good condition, and headed by 12 kilometers, up to stop the car 600 meters to the exact point.

I left the car and caught a sand track that headed up to 230 meters to the confluence. When the GPS arrow turns perpendicular to the direction of the hike, there was still a dense jungle in the direction of the confluence. Then, I follow by some more meters by the track and, to my luck, the jungle runs out and an open area allow me an easy approximation.

I crossed the open area, caught a small track inside other dense jungle, passed by other open area and went up to 88 meters to the confluence. I couldn’t go ahead due to a new dense jungle.

I recorded the visit, made all the way back and, when I caught the BR-135 highway again, it was almost noon. We stopped some kilometers after to have lunch and went ahead.

When the night fell, we were arriving at Açailândia city, where we intended to end the day, after driving by 718 kilometers. We spent the night exactly in the same hotel than in the day of the visit to 5S 47W, in August 2015.

On the following day, we resumed the trip about 7:00 and drove the remaining 243 kilometers, arriving at Marabá about 10:30.

This was a much productive trip, in relation to confluence visits. For the first time, I visited two never visited confluences in only one trip. It looks like São Luís, although it’s a capital of a state and a very big city, with more than 1 million inhabitants, didn’t draw the attention of any confluence hunter. The two nearest confluences to the city, with very easy access, had never visited by anyone.
