05-Jul-2001 -- The confluence is in the Babcock National Park, just off the New River Gorge. On the 4th of July I rode down from Washington DC on my Valkerie motorcycle going to Elkins WV and then South on WV Rt 20 also known as the Mountain ByWay. With the holiday and light showers, I had the road to myself. It was breathtaking. Upon arrival I found the abandoned gravel road and traveled to a big mud hole. The thought of getting a 800lb motorcycle stuck five miles from the next person caused me to walk the last two miles. Going down the hill, perpendicular to the stream was fun. Crossing the stream was spritual. Finding the confluence 20 meters on the far side hillside with only three satelites(2D) was frustrating. The GPS would not hold the location long enough to get a picture but I am sure that I got to the location by topo map and by GPS. Reaching the confluence requires a challenging hike to a remote, boulder (10feet in dia) strewn, heavily forested hike: but worth the trip. A great excuse to take a motorcycle ride.
