20-Apr-2016 -- After visiting 47°N 125°E I drove to Manzhouli close to the Russian border to visit it. There I saw the pretty impressive ghost amusement parks Mammoth Park and Matryoshka Square. In the hostel I met Chén Chuányù (陈传玉) who, like me, was going to Hailar the next day. We then drove to the city, and after explaining what the DCP was, he agreed to come with me to try and find this confluence.
After reaching Hailar (Hulunbuir on most maps, but Hulunbuir is the district, not the city) we drove for about an hour on the S201 road. After passing the closest point to the confluence, we took the first dirt road heading north. The parts of the road with many tyre tracks were the most muddy, but in general it was dry, compact and easy to drive on. We followed the track for 3 km until we reached a place with a couple of houses called Èr Hào Jī Jǐng (二号鸡井, Chicken's Well number two, located at 48°56'08.26"N 118°58'17.42"E) according to the family living there. We explained what we were doing there and showed them the letter from the DCP website, although I doubt they understood it.
At that point we were worried that my rental car wouldn't be good enough to drive on the tracks beyond the house. However, the family told us that it hadn't rained for a while, and although there were some muddy spots, they were easily avoidable. We could even drive outside the tracks and on the open fields safely.
We then set off again and drove straight to the confluence. There were no obstacles at all, apart from a couple of fences that we had to drive around, taking care of the barbed wire next to them on the ground. I bet it's not everyday that you can drive right up to a confluence!
After celebrating and having taken all the pictures, when the champagne was running out and we were about to leave, a man on a motorcycle came over to ask us what we were doing there, he is probably the owner of the land where the confluence is located. His name is Zhāng Qínhuì (张勤慧, or 小慧儿, Little Huì). After explaining and talking to him for a short while, he left to tend to his herd. In some of the pictures you can see the tents where his family lives, and the animals in the distance. Then we left and went back to Hailar. The next day I drove back to Harbin, and on the way attempted to visit 47°N 124°E.
