#1: View to the west from the confluence

(visited by Jonathan Beck and Jody Turner)

29-Mar-2001 -- Coming in Delorme showed a road that would lead us to within .25 miles of the confluence. But upon approach we ran into a warning gate. Apparently that led to an exotic farm area which raised elk, so we backtracked and went to the nearest farmhouse. We found the landowner working on some scrap wood, and his grandsons came to talk to us. The landowner was a former navyman, and he obviously he knew of longitude/latitude, so he graciously offered to drive us down on his land as far as he could. We came upon the propertyline and decided to risk it. The landowner said that he didn't think we'd get into trouble and that the next farmhouse was a ways off. We decide to jump the eight foot fence, and followed the "buggy" trail in to the confluence. The confluence was on the other side of the ridge from the "buggy" trail. Due to the thick tree cover there was some trouble getting a lock on the zero mark, but we did accomplish our goal. The confluence looks like much of the other Missouri confluences in this part of the country, a wooded area with barren trees this time of year (see also N37 W91 and N38 W91). Off to our second of 8 confluences on this adventure.

Next stop N36 W93.
