#1: Looking at the Confluence from 50 m distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz and Elionora)

27-Dec-2016 -- This is the first out of five reports on reaching confluence points during our trip through Colombia. Two of them had not been successfully visited before.

To many ears, Colombia sounds like a dangerous place. But in recent years the situation in Colombia has significantly improved, mostly due to the agreement between the FARC and the government. Nevertheless, the crime rate is very high and landmines are still deployed all over the country.

As a warm up, we made this easy visit. Having flown into the country in the International Airport of Bogotá, we drove our rental car directly to the southern outskirts of Zipaquirá where this confluence is located. The minimal distance from the main road between Bogotá and Zipaquirá (45A) is just 400 m. But there is a mountain between the road and the CP and the area seemed to be fenced off. So we overshoot a little on the main road further north towards Zipaquirá and finally took this track (as a part of Juncalito village) which brought us up to a distance of 300 m.

Now a new factory building that was still under construction blocked our further approach. We walked along the huge fence over an open meadow. The fence zig-zagged, but at the end we were lucky: the CP is outside the compound – just 3 m distance from the fence on a meadow used by cows.

So this confluence is another example of a big change. I wouldn’t wonder if the confluence will soon become fenced off when the development of the plot continues.

We returned the same way back to our vehicle and took a hotel in Zipaquirá just 3 km north of the confluence point. From there we visited this unique Salt Cathedral.
