28-Sep-2013 -- Spending the summer vacation in the South-East corner of Lycia, Turkey. With a confluence point at only 2 ½ hours drive the decision to make a daytrip was quickly made!

Leaving Adrasan (Çavuşköy) around 09:15, the 150-km drive was really nice, and easy over the D400 and D635. Especially the part through the Toros mountains, between Finike and Göltarla, was majestic with lots of nice geology. Turning off the D635, we drove on a smaller country road towards Nebiler, the village nearest the CP. The first part, to the village of Karabayır was fine, fairly recently tarmac-ed, however after Karabayır, the road turned into one riddled with potholes and large areas of missing tarmac. Not really a problem driving if you keep focused and don't drive too fast.

Around 11:30 we arrived in the village of Nebiler, where all of a sudden two large mean looking barking dogs jumped at the car, causing a bit of a scare. Luckily a car can outrun dogs, so speeding up a bit got us in the clear. At 36°58.679'N 30°0.621'E we left the road and turned on the final stretch to the CP: a dirttrack. And again a mean looking dog decided it was a good idea to scare us. The first 1.5 km is drivable (slow!), but then the path is blocked by a pool of water (runoff from a animal water trough). Here we parked the car and walked the final 1.5 km to the CP: a leisurely walk further along the dirt road, crossing a river valley at the end and then over a recently harvested cereal field.

The CP is located upon a highland, surrounded by fairly low mountains - or hills as seen from the CP, although the CP itself is already located at an elevation of about 1600 m. And it's on agricultural land, at the time of our visit containing the stalks of harvested cereal. Most striking of the area is the virtual lack of sound (or noise): it was very quiet and peaceful. Also striking is that the area hasn't changed since both previous visits in 2009 and 2001.

On the way back to our vacation home, we took the same roads, got chased once again by the same dogs, had a quick lunch of fresh Turkish bread and canned tuna, enjoyed the same scenery and took the time to visit the abandoned and ruined ancient Lycian city of Arykanda (36°30.758'N 30°3.538'E), a place really worth spending an hour or two.
