11-Aug-2001 -- I took off from Holland, MI midmorning Sat. Aug. 11 for the 3 hour ride to confluence on the other side of the state. The weather was perfect, about 75 and sunny.

When I got there, I saw all the keep out signs Shorty put up every 40 ft., so I decided to see if there was some way to the spot with out trespassing. Well to the east there was some unfenced, unposted land so in I went, and waded thru chest high ferns and brush for about a mile and a half till I circled all the way 'round and the gps zeroed! The area is shot thru with deer trails, but with my thrashing around, I sure didn't see any of them. Took the pictures and circled back. It was fairly easy brush-crashing, just a LOT of it,and I worked up a sweat even though it was fairly mild. Someone was sitting in his truck at the end of Townline road when I came back, but he just looked at me in the rearview mirror as I walked by to my cycle, which was parked further down the dirt 2 track that is the continuation of Townline Rd., and where the previous confluence hunters did their near Donner party last winter. I almost feel bad about bumping their tale of misadventure, it is such a good read! Rode up to Alpena afterward, across to Gaylord, and back down to Grand rapids for a 500 mile day.
