09-Jul-2023 – After visiting the CP 43°N 72°E we set off to the next confluence to the west.

From the main Almaty–Shimkent highway, you need to turn off the Taraz city bypass road onto the R-42 road, and then from it onto the R-44, which runs 2.3 km from the confluence. From R-42 I turned south at 43°01'07''N 70°59'11''E. Soon I reached a small forest belt where I parked. From here it was 160 meters to the target.

While I was walking these 160 meters, two riders on horses were moving towards me. And we met exactly when I reached zeros. They asked me not very friendly what I was doing here. I showed them the zeros on my GPS unit and tried to explain something, but they asked me why I spoke Russian. I continued my explanation in English, but the horse rider interrupted me and asked me to switch back to Russian. Then he called somewhere on his mobile phone and gave me the phone. There the woman also asked me for what purpose I was walking on their territory. I simply said that this was my “geographical entertainment.” This satisfied her. I returned the phone to the lad and asked if I could take a photo of him. He refused and they quickly galloped away. One of the riders was captured on "view northeast" photo.

The exact confluence spot is located in a field in the center of Zhambyl district of Zhambyl region. 6–7 km to the south you can see the small Ulken-Buryltau mountains (heights up to 1100 m). Further, 25 km to the southwest is the Karatau ridge (altitudes up to 1600 m).

  • Local time at the CP: 5:10 pm
  • Elevation: 473 m
  • Path conditions: flat field
