(visited by Graeme Foster and Mike Bonnici)

17-Aug-2006 -- After successfully visiting the Confluence at 31N 21E, Mike Bonnici and I were on a scouting trip to the East of our camp to find new and safe routes for our seismic crew NAGECO 206, luckily this was going to be in the vicinity of 31N 22E, a slight detour but not far to bag another.

It was up early as usual and off we went, we reached the main Ajdābiyā-Ṭubruq highway 11 km from camp, travelled east for approximately 50 km, and then headed southeast on an old seismic line (these are from about 1980's) for a further 40 km, then east on another line (32 km) until we reached the DCP.

Just before the DCP, about 400 meters, we drove past an old grave and Miṣallā (prayer site). The Miṣallā was a mosque-shaped circle of stones facing east, it was situated on the east side of the grave, probably used by Bedouin (see photo).

On arriving at DCP 31N 22E, Mike and I found the position with an accuracy of ± 5 meters. Our GPS showed all the 0’s in the right places, another one in the bag.

We marked the position with a concrete marker and left our names in an old cassette tape case under the marker. (It would be interesting to see how long it will remain there, please keep adding names and dates and let us know).

The trip back to our Base camp was a long, slow trip; the total journey was 311 km scouting included, a long day but we were happy to get another, my second and Mike's tenth.
