#1: The Confluence from 30 m distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz)

06-Sep-2018 -- This is the second out of 2 reports reaching confluence points on our hike eastwards.

Meanwhile, we have walked 1700 km from Zurich to Hungary, see the initiary of our hike.

We spent the night in the city of Oradea (8 km north-west of this confluence point). The next morning I woke up at 5 AM, took a trolley car to the bus station “Autogara Nufarul”, from where I caught a bus to the hot spring area Băile Felix (1.5 km to the confluence). I continued on foot to visit the nature reserve “Paraul Peţa” which is only 200 m from the confluence point!

The Peţa River has a roughly constant temperature of around 30°C and forms a very unique biosphere. It holds the thermal lotus, which is endemic to this little nature reserve. However, at the time of my visit I only found a normal pond without any lotus.

The second objective was the visit of this confluence point. It is in the main road of the nearby village Rontău. I found the confluence exactly on the pave walk in the public area, so there was no need to access private ground. Behind the fence are growing red grapes. The tree in front of the house has grown a lot compared to previous visits – it is now dominating the confluence point.

For fun I ran back those 8 kilometres to Oradea reaching our hotel at the right time for having breakfast. We than continued our hike eastwards.
