#1: The confluence place near the white plate used to guide the ships in the Sao Francisco River

(visited by Lis Maria Rabaco / Endre De Gyalokay)

Portuguese

01-Jan-2004 -- We left Januaria where we passed the reiveillon, and took the road to Itacarambi and Manga.

We crossed Itacarambi and we took the gravel road to a car boat. This road has no sequence in this margin of river and we came back to main road to Manga and exited to Remanso in ICIL Farm. Remanso is a small village located near the margin of Sao Francisco River.

But the confluence was in the opposite margin of Sao Francisco River far 700 meters from Remanso, near a White plate in opposite side of river.

So we took a small canoe to there. The canoe was ride by Seu Raimundo Pereira, a fisherman of San Francisco River. This canoe was not in very good condition and there was some water inside.

Seu Raimundo left Reamanso rowing against the current of Sao Francisco River, near the margin far from the place where we should moor 100 meters ahead, because the current was so strong.

We crossed the river and arrived at Santa Idalicia, two houses in the opposite side of Remanso.

There we followed a road parallel to river distant near 400 meters. When the road left to be parallel to the river just after cross a gate, we started to walk in a big grass field. There were some cattle and an eletric fence to avoid the cattle goes near the river.

The vegetation has a lot of thorns but the confluence was near 200 meters. We were walking to there and near 70 meters from confluence we found a small lagoon.

Seu Raimundo helps us to find the confluence not far 100 meters from Sao Francisco River.

After we came back to Remanso took the boat to Mocambinho and Jaiba.

Mocambinho is a big irrigation project in Margins of Sao Francisco River and brings water to Janauba far 150 km from the river. We could see a lot of bananas planted in the dry soil.
