12-Aug-2007 -- The 4x4 Club of Zimbabwe were at Arcadia Dam, Pote Valley, Shamva for the weekend and the four of us, Quentin Kelly-Edwards, Mike Gill, Roger Ellis, and Murray Upton, set off in two vehicles (Jeep Wrangler "The Jungle VIP" & Nissan Patrol "Stubby") at 9:10 a.m. heading ENE via Shamva onto dirt road to Matawatawa, then north from there towards Chitsungo. The road winds its way through the Mazowe valley and right alongside the Mazowe River for a good 15 km.
Once we got within 1 km of the Confluence just past Borera Mission, we went off road and drove through the bush right to the Conflunce, it was very rough going as we picked our way through but it was a lot of fun. The area is lowveld and the odd Baobab tree and Illala Palms, the Msasa trees are just coming into new leaf but we were a week or two too soon to catch the full flush of colour. Plenty of Mopani flies zoomed in on us as we had a beer (a rare commodity now in Zimbabwe) to celebrate. Very picturesque part of the country dotted with rural villages.
