  18°S 132°E (incomplete)

#1: Towards confluence, about 12km to south-east.

(visited by David Nash)

16-Jul-1992 -- I reached this area from Cattle Creek Pastoral Lease to the north-west. Our group of seven travelled for several days in two four-wheel drives around this area, so that the old Warlpiri and Gurindji men with us could return to country they had known on foot in their youth. Picture #1 looks south-east towards the confluence from about 12km distant. The confluence is in similar country, red sandy soil with scrub including Acacias such as Acacia stipuligera and scattered Eucalypts.

The view shows our fresh wheel tracks after our visit that day to the 'Kookaburra' memorial around 17°56'S 131°58'E, picture #2. Our wheel tracks follow a previous barely-used track which peters out as it approaches the Kookaburra memorial, which was erected in April 1979 at the site where the remains of the Kookaburra aircraft were found in 1978. (This is distinct from the related Kookaburra memorial in Alice Springs next to the location of the Kookaburra aircraft's last take-off on 10 April 1929.)
