#1: The confluence is in the long spiky grass.

(visited by Owen Foley)

24-Aug-2001 -- This confluence is near Kajabbi, which is a collection of about a dozen shacks 90 km north of the mining city of Mt Isa. The whole region is heavily mineralized with many copper. zinc, lead and silver mines in the surrounding hills. The confluence is only 5 kilometres outside of “town”. I found a track which took me to within 1.5 kilometres and was able to drive cross country to 550 metres.

The point is located in a large patch of spinifex grass (ouch!). Passing through some very hard dry stony country on the way there I encountered some unusual wildlife. I wasn’t expecting to find camels so far north. Camels were introduced as pack animals in the 1800s and Australia is now the only country where camels are found in the wild.
