#1: View to north of confluence

(visited by Alan G. McCall and John McCall)

08-Jul-2008 -- We drove to this confluence from the south west. The last 15 kilometres was bush bashing. Prior to this for about 40 kilometres we drove on old mining shot-lines that would only be used once every few years or so. After visiting the confluence we drove for about 25 kilometres to the north east bush bashing before eventually cutting the Gary Junction Road.

I was on my annual holiday and was passing by this way as a shortcut to get to the Gary Junction Road from the Gary Highway.

There was a rusty old metal stake in the ground about 150 metres to the south. As there were no other signs of human activity in the area for many kilometres I can only assume that it was put there by a surveyor many years ago to mark the confluence.

To the north east about 2 kilometres from the confluence is a very thick clump of almost impenetrable shrub which we drove into and very quickly turned around when we realised how thick it was. This caused 1 puncture in one of the front tyres and which was good as it could have been a lot worse.

People attempting similar confluence visits in the desert should review the relevant risks involved in desert travelling.

Coordinator's Note: Please note carefully the warning given here, this is very remote as a look on the maps will tell you. Prepare well.
