#1: General view

(visited by Brian Roberts, Stanley Shimango and Renate Roberts)

13-Aug-2006 -- This is continued from confluence 22S 17E, which we visited on 12 August 2006. We had then continued on to confluence 23S 17E, a confluence that has not yet been visited. Although we managed to get within 2 km of the Confluence, we were unable to reach it because it was situated on the side of a mountain in thick bush, and the fact that it was almost sunset. Reluctantly, we had to leave due to time constraints.

We drove on to Rehoboth were we camped at the Oanob dam, a very pleasant camping site, reaching there by 22h00. The following day we took the D1237 route until we reached the C26 which took us in a westerly direction towards Walvis Bay. From there we turned off northwards on the D1998 and then eastwards along the D1982 until we reached the turn-off to the farm "Donkersan". The owners of the farm were not home but we had previously arranged with them to visit the Confluence.

When we reached the farmhouse we met farm worker Stanley Shimango who would accompany us to the Confluence. We drove along a stoney farm road for several kilometers, first northwards, then westwards, then in a southerly direction, until we were within 800 meters of the Confluence. We then proceeded on foot as we did not want to damage the area by driving off-road. It was a long walk through tall grass and thorns. It was late afternoon by the time we reached the Confluence, which was situated in a dry river bed.

By the time we had returned to the farmhouse, it was dark. We thanked Stanley for his help and then returned to Walvis Bay along the D1982 and the C14. At 21h00 we passed confluence 23S 15E - too late to visit it or take photographs. This would have been Confluence five of our "5-confluence week-end". As it turned out, we had reached all five but only managed to document three due to arriving too late in the day at two of them. We will try again!
