#1: Looking North

(visited by Doug Thompson)

04-Apr-2005 -- From 32s-133e.This was my fifth CP on my return to Perth from Newcastle.I had been thinking of visiting 31s-130e,and travelled from the Eye Highway to Cook on the trans Australian railway line.Travelling west alongside the line I slept for the night at Denman.

In the morning I failed to find the track that leads towards 31s-130s.I didn't look to hard as I thought I would have a 5k walk to the cp, and the drive alongside the trans line was just as apealing to me. In between Hughes and Deakin I was lucky to see both the east and west bound Indian Pacific trains.

From Deakin I headed south towards Eucla and the track came close to 31s-129e. I parked my car 718 metre's from the spot.It took me twentyfour hours to travel from Nullarbour roadhouse to Eucla via Cook and Deakin. It only takes about two hours along the Eye Highway. I had three punctures, and as I only had two spares I had to make repairs. The muffler also took a beating on the limestone rocks.
