#1: This is the spot

(visited by Stephan Theriault)

05-Nov-2005 -- As part of a visit to Mungo National Park with the whole family, I suggested we make a detour, see a bit of the country and visit a confluence. Everyone agreed it was going to be fun. I had printed an aerial photo of the area so I had a good idea of how to get close to the spot.

We drove on the Arumpo road towards the national park for a while before heading East about 12 and a half kilometres. We then found an unlocked gate and started heading South for 3 k's then East again for 3 k's. At that point I thought we could have gone further South but we were confronted by two intersecting wire fences. We were another 4 kilometres from the goal and it was too late to walk there and back so we established camp there.

The following morning I proceded on foot at the crack of dawn through the bush. Mostly Malee and Spinifex grass but quite an easy stroll. I did the zero dance for a few minutes, took the pictures and headed back. A few rabbits and the birds were the main wildlife there but once I got back to the campsite, I was greeted by a sheep who was pbviously not used to get visitors. An interesting outing.
