#1: View towards West

(visited by Captain Peter)

29-Sep-2006 -- After having visited 39S 59W in the morning, this evening shortly prior sunset we arrived at 38S 57W. We have already altered course to NE and are proceeding with 13.5 knots (25 km/h).

This Confluence lies 45.5 km E of Mar del Plata, which is Argentina's principal sea holiday resort. The coast is known as the "Costa Atlántica Argentina" and is visited by more then 1 ½ million tourists annually. Several holiday resorts, containing hotels, lie along this coast, between them are scattered clumps of scrub.

Even in best visibility the coast itself cannot be seen well from seaward at a larger distance, and so now we could make out only the higher buildings standing on it. All what we saw were the ones at Mar del Plata towards West, and I am sorry but I really cannot offer more than this view.

Mar del Plata provides a port for the Argentine Navy and a large fishing fleet. Cereals, frozen meat, and fish are exported from here.

Coordinator's Note: In this special case, the visit was registered as complete, although it doesn't comply with the DCP photo requirements.

This Confluence is indexed as secondary, as it is far out in the sea without direct view of land.
