26-Feb-2013 -- Our first point in Australia

This is the first point ever reached for Mark, so he now is no longer pointless. For Ray this is the first Australia point, and two more on the same trip.

The journey started at the home of Mark and Kiniki near Melbourne by following the famous Great Ocean Highway. This point was near the route when we left the famous spot of the 12 Apostles heading toward Ballard, the historical gold mining town.

This confluence point located about 260 meters from a secondary road and less than 2 km off the main highway. We parked at a gate of a farm 460 meters from our target. Kiniki and Florence decided to take it easy in the car so only Mark and Ray reached the all zeros location. Walking across the hay field was a piece of cake except we were inundated by aggressive large flies. Maybe the ladies knew better.

Mark did the confluence dance for couple minutes before nailing down the all zeros spot. We retreated quickly to escape the flies and to keep peace in the family.

Welcome to the line-hunting club, Mark.

Rating of this hunt

Degree of Challenge:

1 – easy drive and a short hike (1= very easy - drive to the point; to 5= a death march – glad it is over)

Scenery:

1– Inside a farm’s grass field nothing remarkable (Scale: 1= not interesting at all; 5= take your breath away)

Culture-social factors:

2 – Where we came from – the Great Ocean Highway and the rural country drive to reach this point provided a good glimpse of what this part of Australia is like (Scale: 1=dull; 5= most stimulating)
