05-Apr-2012 - With my wife Carmen Morales and my two daughters Arianny and Heleanny perform 8 trips (since July 2011) to the area to earn more and more useful information about the terrain and the best way to conquer the confluence 10N 63W.

Despite being near the end of the dry season, the rains have not ceased, and while we waited anxiously for a few days of good weather we reviewed the trails or "tracks" of previous visits trying to wrest some secret to the ground, as there are no images useful place in Google Earth. At Easter the weather improved, so did a new invitation to the conference, which was answered by Mauricio Pagavino and his son Cedric, who was 1 year and also planned routes and strategies to win this confluence, as well as Heliodoro Fernandez. The group was composed of Mauricio, Cedric, Heliodoro, the indefatigable and enthusiastic also expert the place, Mr. Elulalio Brito, and myself, Jose Antonio Toledo. We plan on Holy Thursday from April 5 at 5am, but some mishaps delayed the start time to 9am.

The short drought allowed a couple of miles by car and on foot on a first stretch of dry land. We report the depart to the support team, which had copies of the route we took our backpacks equipped with the necessities and some extra items such as batteries, solar charger, cord, flint, compasses, maps, energy food, etc.. The 5 adventurers set off a 6 km course to the ESE.

In my eighth trip before the water reached my waist in the first section, which now had only dried mud. We passed "La Ceiba" and move lively and confident of achieving our goal. But it was inevitably going through a very hostile swamp, filled with palm trees, covered with gnarled roots, full of bugs and water and mud in which we sank from the ankles to the knees and perhaps higher.

We walked, or crawled, on a trail opened years ago by a seismic company, but our energy and time is running out quickly. Sometimes we had to cross a deep well, perhaps populated by eels, balancing on slippery logs. After 4 hours we evaluate our progress and consider returning or go a little further, our guide would have assured us that ahead there is dry, high ground, so we decided to go ahead. After several breaks and a frugal lunch we verify that we are still missing about 3 km of territory without trail to reach the confluence, the speed of just over 1 km/h meant 6 hours round trip. Exhaustion, time and wisdom helped us decide to return, which passed with tripping, falling water and worry the expert guidance and support of Mr. Elulalio Brito was instrumental in keeping the spirits high when the forces already depleted and sought to overcome discouragement our optimism. Getting back to dry land, leaving behind the dam, it was like dawn again, and we lay down to watch the sky in silence, without thinking or want anything, just look up, listen to birds, and rest.

We resumed the march to the vehicles, where cold drinks exhausted that there was reserved. We changed clothes and started back home, his body bruised, and thanking God for that experience in wilderness and saved us back there, but also thanking our friend Elulalio Brito who was the hand of God for these two goods with which they gave us this holy day.

Now it's time to re-plan strategies to address the next adventure and I look forward to the conquest of this virgin of the last CP Monagas State
