  16°N 105°E (visit #2)  

#1: The confluence point -- undergrowth is so dense I got no picture to the East of the point

04-Jun-2007 -- I had attempted this confluence a month earlier, to my mortification on checking my GPS after the visit it was not set to WGS84 – I had trekked an extra kilometre in difficult conditions to no avail.

This time I was prepared, I brought a towel along to give a good background for the GPS and get the sweat out of my eyes. I used PointAsia.com, which is like a Thai language GoogleEarth with generally much better coverage of Thailand, to check the approach. The confluence, indicated by the yellow pin, is located in quite thick woodland, I approach by driving from the village, Huai Tup to the South East of the point, exiting at the North Western side of the village via a dirt track, which shows as a white line on the extract from Pointasia which ran North then West, passing a distinctive burnt tree I then turned off down an almost imperceptible track to the South and got to about 300 metres of the confluence, the parked and waypointed the car. Walked further along the track turned, across the dyke of a rice field and found a small track which got me close to the confluence the undergrowth was too thick to penetrate an I took the GPS reading and pictures from the small track when I got to 16N.

Note for future spotters I would not advise using these dirt tracks even in a 4WD if they were wet.

Note I calculated the distance from the confluence point by:- ((length of a degree of Longitude=cos Latitude*111.325Km)* fraction of a degree from point) (in this case .00078) and added the GPS accuracy.
