09-Jun-2001 -- The road from the state highway to Jonuta was not too bad. The occasional series of potholes did not slow us down.

Just after Jonuta we crossed the first military checkpoint: we were leaving the state of Tabasco and crossed over to Campeche to head for the next one a few kms down the road back into Tabasco.

The village we were looking for was Bajo Amatitán. After following a dirt track off the main road we reach Alto Amatitan. Bajo Amatitan was just across the river Usumacinta. Asking around we found the guy with the boat to take us to the other side.

We expected the swamp to carry more water, but no... The last 2.5 kms we had to walk. Some locals were so kind to show us the safest way through the high grass and dense forest. Despite nasty ants we finally reached the Cobo Laguna and by local canoe we did the last 800m.
