29-Apr-2006 -- We left Guadalajara around two o’clock towards Juchitlán, a 8,500-inhabitant-town located some 120 km (80 mi) from Guadalajara, driving south on the road to Barra de Navidad. Once arrived in Juchitlán we drove to Los Corrales, which is a smaller town near 5 km (3 mi), then at the village of San José de los Guajes the paved road ends and along dirt roads we approached the settlements of Rancho Viejo, Santa Rosa and finally La Laja.
The point 20º N 104ª W is very close to the top of the hill at the East of La Laja, 1 km (.6 mi) from where the dirt road ends. The uphill hiking is steep, the hill has flat stone in several spots, thorny plants and loose gravel and stone. Nevertheless it’s useful to follow a path that passes really close from the confluence, which we reached abut 7 pm. The total ascent was 300 m (985 ft).
We brought two GPS from the same company in order to watch the similarity between those points indicated with the exact position, and although being more the half an hour looking the zeroes we never got closer than 5 m (15 ft) from each other. The altitude taken from both GPS was 1371-1388 m (4498-4553 ft). The view from above is worth it all.
