#1: The Confluence from 20 m Distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz)

12-Dec-2019 -- This is the 5th out of 21 successful revisits and 2 unsuccessful attempts on unvisited confluences in Saudi Arabia. The story starts at 28°N 48°E and continues from 28°N 45°E.

This confluence point is 7 km from the main road 6530 near the oasis village Aba Alworood. We could approach the confluence up to a distance of 5 km on asphalt and 3.1 km on an earth track. We parked in front of a huge circular agricultural field. Due to an automatic rotating irrigation, the agricultural fields tend to have exact circular shapes. At the time of our visit, the field was only used for camel grazing.

Elionora waited in the car, while I ran around the field (with in diameter of almost 1 km), to avoid delays by communicating with the shepherd, who was – besides the camels – grazing sheep inside the round field. After passing by the field, I entered a stone desert. The last kilometre was down in a relatively green valley. I also made a big circle around a nomadic family home.

The confluence itself is on a plane with scattered little rocks and hardly any vegetation. The nomadic home can be seen from the confluence point.

I took the same way back. We then drove back to the main road and continued to the city of Hail, where we spent two nights.
