We first attempted this confluence on January 22, 2001. The gate was clearly marked no trespassing. We stopped at the gate.

Last week I was fortunate in that I not only contacted one of the family members living on the property, I got to talk to several members of the family. They own and operate a ranch on this property. I enjoyed my telephone visits with these people and really appreciated the time they spent finding out what we wanted to do.

I was put in contact with Wes Cole who manages the property. He has e-mail so I sent him a map to 29°N 97°W and links to the Degree Confluence project. We arranged to meet at his house between 2:30 and 3 pm on Sunday, April 22, 2001.

Mr. Cole was just wonderful. He loaded us in his truck and drove us directly to the confluence. This was the easiest confluence we've gotten. After we had gotten the confluence shots Mr. Cole took us for a drive around the ranch and we got to see his cattle and some of the wildflowers on the property. It was rather spectacular.

29N x 97W turned out to be an easy one. On our first trip we ran into clearly marked private property (picture 2), but several months later Anne contacted the family that owns the ranch. After talking to several generations of the Cole family, she was put in contact with the man that runs the place.

Mr. Cole thanked us for respecting the no tresspassing sign, was interested in what we wanted, and then invited us to come out to his ranch on Sunday afternoon. When we got there he loaded us up in his truck, drove us to the confluence (picture 2), waited around while we took the pictures then gave us a tour of the place. Just goes to show that there are some really friendly people down here in Texas.
