(visited by Ed Vinson)

11-May-2001 -- This confluence was an easy walk, with not even a fence, from Farm-to-Market Road 298 a few miles west of an intersection bearing the name Stegall, Texas. It is way out in the middle of the Llano Estacado, the (originally) treeless rolling plain that makes up much of the Texas Panhandle and Eastern New Mexico. It's primarily wheat and cattle country around Stegall, with lots of potatoes and carrots a little to the north as the soil gets sandier.

I drove west from Stegall to the 103rd meridian, stopped the truck, and walked about 400 meters south across a once-plowed but now fallow field until the GPS zeroed out. There was what probably was a badger burrow on the way, but I failed to get a photo. The photos I did get are, from #1 to #5, to the north, east, south, and west, and of my trusty e-Trex on the spot itself. My pickup is visible in pic #1 with an abandoned house perhaps 200 meters behind it. The house and barn in picture #2 were the only obviously inhabited spot within a mile or so of the confluence.
