12-Apr-2006 -- 37N – 106E Ningxai (宁夏), China

Line Hunting Date: April 12, 2006

An easy hunt of the last Confluence Point of in Ningxai

We departed Guyuan (固原) city in the morning where we visited 36N 106E the previous day. It took a little over an hour to reach the first destination of the day – Tong Xin (同心) city. By 11 am, we finished the meeting and manage to declined the invitation of an early lunch so we can get started with the hunt for the fourth as well as the last confluence point of Ningxia

This confluence point located about 6 km east from the Tong Xin Health Department where we had our meeting. The drive to the confluence took less than 15 minutes and required one right turn and one left turn. We parked 80 meters from the point. This was by far the easiest line hunting we ever did.

This confluence point located in a plain desert about 1 km from the nearest village known as the Huang Shi Cun (黄石村) which means Yellowstone. It is part of the Shi Shi (石狮 or Stone Lion)Township.

There were four first-time confluence hunters and all were very impressed that confluence hunting is a rather easy enterprise. On our way out of Tong Xin city, we made a brief stop at one of the oldest mosque in the area which was established over a hundred fifty years ago.

We had a late lunch and conducted another site visit in Wu Zhong (吴忠) city which was not too far from the 2nd confluence point (38N 106E) which we previously visited in September of 2005. We reached our final destination – Yin Chuan (银川) city, the capital of Ningxia – before the night fall.

Rating of this hunt:

Degree of Challenge: 1 – a short and easy drive to the point (1= very easy - drive to the point; to 5= a death march – glad it is over)

Scenery: 1– flat and dry with only a few stones (Scale: 1= not interesting at all; 5= take your breath away)

Culture-social factors: 2 - rural area near a mid-size city (Scale: 1=dull; 5= most stimulating)
