Our visit to our son for Christmas in Clarksville Tennessee is about to culminate. There are some confluences left to visit not so close, but this one in the southwest corner of Indiana I had to go. It's the first time I've visited the state of Indiana and of course my first confluence here.

The area where it is located is rural agriculture but incredibly carries out oil exploitation activity. Analyzing the map of my Garmin GPS, Google Earth views and reports from previous visitors I conclude that I must approach from the south and avoid the north or east approach due to the presence of lagoons.

Taking advantage of today´s sunny weather sunny and the weather forecast for today would not be icy that could create problems with the formation of ice on bridges or the track, my wife and I depart to the hunt for this confluence. We leave Clarksville, enter the state of Kentuky and take US 41 north, pass through the towns of Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Henderson and cross the Ohio River which is the border between Kentucky and Indiana. By the way we appreciate large barges completely laden with coal sailing down the river to the east.

Already in Indiana we arrive to Evansville and take the Lloyd Highway westbound, which later becomes US 62. When we find US 69 we turn right and a little further on we turn left on Tile Factory Rd. At about 700 meters we turn right onto Bellfontaine Cementary Rd and when we reach Lower New Harmony Rd we turn right. From this point the road was much narrower, and in the interception with Ranes Rd we continued on this one. This track is a dirty road in medium condition with a straight line descent from the interception with Cameron Rd to the CSX Transportation railroad tracks. We pass over the railways and continue along Ranes Rd until the interception with Wabash Rd in front of an oil gathering station where we turn right. Later at a fork with CR 330 we continue to the right along Wabash Rd, we pass a rudimentary bridge which passes over a stream of water coming from the Wabash River (Wabash River serves as a border boundary with the state of Illinois).

We continue along Wabash Rd and after about 150 meters we turn left on CR 300, a dirt road with mud and water parts. We came on the Rav4 which is AWD but with our city tires it's just a light vehicle that doesn't have many capabilities for hard mudway activities, so we crossed our fingers not to get stuck in the middle of nowhere where it would be hard to seek help. Further down 300 Rd I saw a road to the right that would bring me a closer to the confluence, but I decide to park on the 300 Rd before an area with a lot of mud and water and start from here the walk.

I start the walk in a straight line to the PC about 480 meters with camera and GPS in hand. The terrain had recently been harvested, it was very soft and still marked the tracks of the tractors. As I approached I found that the CP was located in a lower part that usually serves as a lagoon perhaps for irrigation, but at the moment it was empty. I kept moving forward, I think if the site had mud I would hunt from shore about 50 meters but fortunately the terrain was dry, no mud and could walk without difficulty. I arrived exactly on the CP and performed a short and very rewarding Confluence Dance as the sky was completely open with a radiant sun even though the temperature was somewhat low already at about 46°F (8°C).

I quickly took the required photos and return to my vehicle. My wife tells me to go fast that this area is so scary to her and we quickly set out on our way back to civilization and then home. On the return road I take advantage of taking pictures of some oil facilities in the area.

With this confluence ends the hunt for confluences on our Christmas vacation trip from central Florida to northwest Tennessee, where our youngest son lives. Already on the long journey back to Florida (almost 12 hours driving) I was thinking about the confluences that remained pending in the area for the next trip we will make soon there.
