25-Feb-2017 -- This is the second out of six reports reaching confluence points during a bicycle trip from Lisbon to Ciudad Real. The story continues from 39°N 9°W.
After the visit of the confluence near Lisbon in the morning, I did some serious cycling such that I reached the town Mora (15 km from this CP) at lunch time. But at 2 PM on a Saturday, all restaurants had long waiting queues for a seat. So I decided to have sandwiches in a “pastelaria” which could satisfy my hungry stomach very quickly. During my lunch, a carnival procession consisting of elderly women in medieval dresses with whistles passed by.
The confluence is located between the hamlet Camões and the village Maranhão just 90 m from an unsealed road. It is on a grazing meadow for cows. I decided not to scale a fence and documented the confluence just from the road. The main reason for this was that I wanted to get as far as possible on this first day of my bicycle trip.
After the visit, I continued cycling to the border of Spain spending the night in the UNESCO town Elvas after having cycled 224 km that day.
