22-Dec-2004 -- The launch of Ariane5 on 18 December has been a success, the missionaries have time on their last days before they return to the Metropole.

Thierry has told us about the confluence he visited on January 2002 in French Guyana. We decided to visit another point of confluence: 4N 52W, the most oriental point of confluence of the French Guyana.

Departure from Kourou is done at night in order to reach the starting point at about 7h00 in the morning. Previous GPS points of the road between Regina and St Georges helped us find the wished starting point which will allow us to go along the crests rather than along the rivers, which always are more difficult to go through.

Machete, compass and GPS at hands, there we went under a sunny sky we made out through the leaves. A couple of red does bolted in front of us; then it was the time for a couple of Hokkos (big birds of the forest) to take flight just behind some trees. The progression was regular and the ground allowed us to open up an almost straight way at a pretty good speed for this kind of forest: around 1.5 km/h. At 10h00, the goal was reached and was celebrated with a bottle of Bordeaux.

Particularities of this point: there are a lot of trees all around but it is not really a surprise in the Amazonian virgin forest!

After eating a frugal meat made of traditional “sardine-couac (local name for the 'flour of manioc')”, we came back to the car, making a detour to explore a little more of the surrounding area.
