(visited by Rainer Mautz and Elionora)

02-May-2015 -- We hiked 1150 km on foot starting in Zurich, Switzerland to reach this confluence point. The start of this hike was back in April 2013, when we began our journey to Rome. The specialty of this trip was that hiking was not done in one go, but in stages. On average once every month, we hiked for the weekend and travelled back home to Zurich by train. Then, we took a train to the place we had stopped last time and resumed our hike from the same train station. A summary of the trip can be found here.

We reached this confluence point on the second last day of our trip before reaching our final goal Rome. The confluence is located just 500 m from the main road “Strada Statale 1” and located on a meadow.

However, this area belongs to fenced part of the Riserva Naturale Regionale di Macchiatonda. After passing the fence, the confluence point was just a short stroll along an agricultural track and for the last 50 m over the meadow where the confluence is located. The confluence is just 700 m from the Mediterranean coast line, but we didn’t try to reach the coast in order to minimise any disturbance of wild animals.

After the visit, we continued our hike and reached the village Maccarese, where we spent the night in a great private bed & breakfast place. The next morning, we finished our 36-day hike by reaching Italian’s capital city Rome. After spending one day there, we took our final train back to Zurich.
